How much do real life stats contribute to the projections? I'm not a projection guy so trying to figure it out

2 out of 4 rounds that I’ve been debating between 2 players, hoped the other one would slip to my next pick, and Texas has taken them right after me.

Whatever is on the Zips website isn't really relevant. That said, real life stats should have an influence on how the players are rated next year. Though I don't know how much smoothing Zips does.

The introduction Dan did to ZiPS on FanGraphs really is a must-read: blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2021-zips-projections-an-introduction/. With all of the [ML] wildcards taken early, there are going to be some real steals in these next few rounds. Probably a lot of older guys who will even fall to the [2/A2/A3] slots in the 7th and 8th Rounds.

It's interesting to see the trends happening. In the 4th Round, 17 of the 30 selections were SP--which was more than double the amount of pitchers taken in any previous round.

If he's healthy, Josh Donaldson being able to fake it as a SS is a steal at this stage.

A light breeze would put half my team on the DL. The average age is 34.15 Years old. My offense consists of a DH who will be playing Left field and a 3rd baseman who might play short.

If a player retires from MLB, does our contract end? Asking in response to the Verlander pick.

If a player retires from MLB, does our contract end? Asking in response to the Verlander pick. If a player officially retires, then they would be removed from their B1G team and that contract would come off the books. It can be a dangerous game counting on when a player will retire.

Carlos Beltran was a fun one iirc.

It was Verdugo or Stroman on that 5th round pick choice. Kicking myself now for it.

No Ragrets is how Oakland is dealing with this draft.

Considering picking 25th, i'm very pleased. Flaherty, Gray, Rendon, and Bryant? I'll take that any day!

Just to clarify, the [ML] wildcard isn't constrained by the maximum years you can sign someone at the slot value. Those are two separate entities so it isn't Weathers or Adell as a [ML] player for 3 years. Once those players reach the MLB rookie eligibility requirements of 130 or more career ABs or 50 or more career IP, then that offseason they'll move to the [.5/1/A1/A2/A3] pay scale so you're delaying when you would start to pay them and gain more future cost-control.

Not sure if Colorado knows he's up yet, but I've sent a few messages--trying to let people know beforehand when their pick might be coming up. He's said he's been busy, but hopefully we can flip around to the 6th Round soon.

Get lists of like 5 from the next 5 teams out if they aren't one of the nerds like me who are checking this forum way too much.

Making two picks at once is high stakes. Although I'd like to get through this quickly, I'm happy to wait when need be.

I think almost any teams besides like 3 could feel really good about their drafts so far. Beauty of being only through 5 rounds.

Always google a player before picking them. Filepe Vazquez is in jail and definitely not eligible to play, yet he's rated (quite highly) on the Zips disk!

Someone like Tanaka would not be eligible since he signed overseas. Someone like Yasiel Puig would also not be eligible because he's not signed and playing with a MLB franchise.

Also when tragedies like Oscar Taveras and Jose Fernandez happen those players are no longer able to be used.

Don't want to sound like a broke record but loving how this draft is going. I like trying to figure out what everyone else is trying to figure out. Some teams still have no pitchers 6 rounds in. Everyone has a different mind set. I love it

When a 3-year contract expires, the player becomes a free agent?

When a 3-year contract expires, the player becomes a free agent? Correct, when any contract expires, they'll become a Free Agent. In Free Agency, a team who re-signs their player will have a 25% hometown discount applied to their winning bid--there's no long-term or other discounts though.
