How much time should a team have before being skipped?

How many rounds are we keeping these intervals going for?

We start with the 1st Round and go from there. It might make sense to keep it the same for each round.

Not in a rush obviously but 24 hours each would be in theory a max of 150 days which would mean we could be wrapping up in June.

One thing on the start date I would point out is if we start on January 15th does that mean all of the IFA players for this year are not eligible?
Would say if that is the case we need to look into a rule then of holding the amateur draft at the same time each year so as to not have double stacking of classes creating an unfair advantage just because you were bad the wrong year.

Is this because of the lockout and teams inability to sign players right now? Is that our concern?

I was just thinking the same thing. Are IFA usually all signed by this time? I usually don't pay attention unless the Yankees snag one

Hourly schedule, 15 picks a day, starting from 8am EST to 11pm EST [or central time for you weirdos].
We'll have the draft done in 10 days.

24 hours is irrational ...

This year is a little abnormal for international free agents considering the shift to when they're able to sign. It was previously June 2nd, but it's in flux right now and there's even the possibility of MLB imposing an international draft--as part of th current lockout negotiations. Some of the signings right now are just rumored and not official until January 2023--like Elian Soto.
I think it would make sense using the end of 2021 as the cut-off for this current draft. Most of the international guys from this most recent class were already selected as part of our inaugural draft.

I removed this poll so we can create one with different options. Using those intervals like we did near the end of the inaugural draft is a possibility, but are we thinking of that on just the weekends or during the weekdays? I do not have the ability to enforce those intervals on weekdays or post for teams who send in a list.
We certainly don't have to wait to start Free Agency until after the Amateur Draft, there can definitely be some overlap so I'm not very worried about how long it will take.

How about we start February 1. we make 6 picks a day, 2 morning, 2 afternoon, 2 evening... Central time. If commish cannot monitor picks, have a volunteer(s) do it... Very flexible time periods...
Begin FA draft on March 1, 2022..etc.

FA bidding should not have to wait till March 1st. All teams are posted by the end of next week.

I merged these two threads together because I think we're good to officially start the Amateur Draft on Saturday, January 22nd. We can have a soft open immediately with teams (in the draft order) able to post their selection. We just need to decide the intervals. Although we're not in a tremendous hurry, going 24 hours per pick would go pretty slow--even with teams who are skipped remaining skipped for the next round if they don't post their makeup selection. Do we have other ideas for intervals? If we can post a vote and decide by Monday, that would be plenty of time to notify everyone of what the process will be for that stat on Saturday, January 22nd.
Since I do not have the ability to post picks (if people have to send in a list) or enforce timeframes during the days of weekdays, we would need someone to step up and be able to help keep things on track if we go with a smaller hourly interval every day during the week. One potential option would be to schedule out a round each weekend. Starting next Saturday and Sunday would finish the draft by February 19th. We could probably even complete Free Agency if we started after the end of the Amateur Draft, but I don't think there's a problem if there's any overlap. Included below is what those intervals could look like with scheduling out a round every weekend.
Saturday 1. skipped by 12 PM CST 2. skipped by 12:30 PM 3. skipped by 1 PM CST 4. skipped by 1:30 AM CST 5. skipped by 2 PM CST 6. skipped by 2:30 PM CST 7. skipped by 3 PM CST 8. skipped by 3:30 PM CST 9. skipped by 4 PM CST 10. skipped by 4:30 PM CST 11. skipped by 5 PM CST 12. skipped by 5:30 PM CST 13. skipped by 6 PM CST 14. skipped by 6:30 PM CST 15. skipped by 7 PM CST
Sunday 16. skipped by 12 PM CST 17. skipped by 12:30 PM 18. skipped by 1 PM CST 19. skipped by 1:30 AM CST 20. skipped by 2 PM CST 21. skipped by 2:30 PM CST 22. skipped by 3 PM CST 23. skipped by 3:30 PM CST 24. skipped by 4 PM CST 25. skipped by 4:30 PM CST 26. skipped by 5 PM CST 27. skipped by 5:30 PM CST 28. skipped by 6 PM CST 29. skipped by 6:30 PM CST 30. skipped by 7 PM CST

Begin FA draft on March 1, 2022..etc. Also, just to clarify, Free Agency would be a bidding process--not a draft like the Amateur Draft. I'll work on updating the Rulebook this weekend, but this was always the section in there about Free Agency. I. IntroductionE. Free Agency ProcessAt the end of every season, players not under contract would be added to a tiered Free Agency list. The maximum contract length is 4 years with minimum bid increments of at least $100K. Teams must include the years and annual value in their bid. Increasing the years would not improve the offer. At the end of the bidding period, the player will be awarded to the team with the team who offered the highest annual value. A team who re-signs a player will have a 25% hometown discount applied to their winning bid. A player signed in Free Agency cannot be traded until July 1st. There's more that will probably need to flesh out by voting--like what the tiers of Free Agency would be and when the bidding would end on each tier.

I just saw an article in the Athletic IFA players were drafted on Saturday but not sure how many were signed. Not sure how we should deal with this.

Like the idea of having the draft during the week and also having a round a weekend.

I just saw an article in the Athletic IFA players were drafted on Saturday but not sure how many were signed. Not sure how we should deal with this. The best way to handle International Free Agents for this year would be using the end of 2021 as the cutoff. If they signed after that, then they can't be selected in this year's Amateur Draft. So someone like Roderick Arias, who the Yankees just asked about, would be eligible in next year's Amateur Draft.

I added a poll with two options. Regardless of the favored route, starting this coming weekend on January 22nd with either option would end the Amateur Draft by February 20th.
5 Picks Every Day 1. skipped by 9 AM CST 2. skipped by 12 PM CST 3. skipped by 3 PM CST 4. skipped by 5 PM CST 5. skipped by 8 PM CST
1 Round Every Weekend Saturday 1. skipped by 12 PM CST 2. skipped by 12:30 PM 3. skipped by 1 PM CST 4. skipped by 1:30 AM CST 5. skipped by 2 PM CST 6. skipped by 2:30 PM CST 7. skipped by 3 PM CST 8. skipped by 3:30 PM CST 9. skipped by 4 PM CST 10. skipped by 4:30 PM CST 11. skipped by 5 PM CST 12. skipped by 5:30 PM CST 13. skipped by 6 PM CST 14. skipped by 6:30 PM CST 15. skipped by 7 PM CST
Sunday 16. skipped by 12 PM CST 17. skipped by 12:30 PM 18. skipped by 1 PM CST 19. skipped by 1:30 AM CST 20. skipped by 2 PM CST 21. skipped by 2:30 PM CST 22. skipped by 3 PM CST 23. skipped by 3:30 PM CST 24. skipped by 4 PM CST 25. skipped by 4:30 PM CST 26. skipped by 5 PM CST 27. skipped by 5:30 PM CST 28. skipped by 6 PM CST 29. skipped by 6:30 PM CST 30. skipped by 7 PM CST

Also to clarify, with the scheduling a round per weekend option, we could still have a soft open during the weekdays with the teams at the top able to post their picks when their turn comes up. This would give teams who might be skipped on the weekends to post their makeup selections.

Looks like people are favoring the 5 draft picks per day. Finishing up the Excel update and will have an email out to everyone later tonight.
