I laughed at how fucked I was when I saw San Francisco was going with a whole rotation of lefties. Just a nightmare match-up with Acuna, Brian Anderson, and Willson Contreras all out. The only chance I stood was if my pitching was lights out. It was not. Congratulations to the Giants!

The Mets entered the finals of the NL Championship series after winning 106 games and defeating the Cubs in the first round of the playoffs. The Giants squeaked past the Cardinals 3 games to 2 to set up the best of 7 match up for the NL championship. The Mets limped into the playoffs without Acuna, Contreras and Brian Anderson. This made the Mets vulnerable to left handed pitching, a weakness the Giants hoped to exploit.
Game 1 at Citifield ...
Lugo (NYM) v. Rodgers (SFG)
Brandon Nimmo led off the game with a laser beam over the right field fence for a 1-0 SFG lead. Carlos Santana extended the lead to 2-0 on a solo blast in the 4th. The Mets rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th. The onslaught included a O'Neil single, a Kim triple, a Myers singl and Pederson's two run blast. 4-2 Mets after 4. SFG tied the game in the 5th on doubles by Baez and Vasquez and a Nimmo single. Rodgers managed to shut down the Mets in the 5th while Met error and a Khris Davis double plated France and gave the Giants a 5-4 lead. Danny Santana homered in the 7th to make it 6-4 and a bullpen trio of Barlow, Taylor and Familia shut out the Mets the rest of the way for a SFG 6-4 win.

Game 2 at Citifield
Brent Suter (NYM) v. Danny Duffy (SFG)
SFG drew first blood with a 4 run second. Carlos Santana delivered the main blow with a three run bomb to deep left. Mets responded with a single run in the bottom of the inning. The score remained 4-1 until the 9th when the Giants added two insurance runs in the 9th thanks to a pinch hit homer off the bat of Khris Davis. Duffy picked up the win, allowing only 1 run over 5 innings before Romo and Barnes shut out the lights.

Game 3 at Oracle Park
Ed. Rodriguez (SFG) v. D. Castillo
Giants felt good after the Duffy gamble paid off but were still uneasy given the Mets won 106 games in the regular season. Nevertheless, SFG finally had their ace on the mound and were hopeful for good results.
Both teams scored twice in the second. The Mets used two singles, a walk, an error and a balk to score their runs. the Giants used an error and Javier Baez' two run blast to tie the game. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 5th when SFG plated 4 runs. Carlos Santana and Joey Gallo each hit two run shots. Neither team managed to score after both bullpens pitched valiantly.

Game 4 at Oracle Park
Rogers (SFG) v. Heaney (NYM)
A sellout crowd packed the Park by the Bay hoping for a sweep of the mighty Mets and a ticket to the World Series.
Giants' skipper rolled the dice again and started Rogers hoping he could make it through 5 innings or so. Heaney was a wildcard thrown out on the table given he has a MLB history of feast or famine. Neither team imagined their gambles would lead to a 13 inning marathon requiring the use of 13 pitchers. 18 men were left on base throughout the contest, the only run scoring when a bad hop went through the legs of Jason Kipnis with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th.
There were multiple high leverage situations in this contest with the NL championships on the line. SFG lefty Drew Smyly threw 3 innings of shut out relief.
The playoffs are a crap shoot and the Giants won this duel but the Mets are the long term powerhouse in the NL, especially when you think what they will do with Acuna next year.
