1.22: SP Walker Buehler, LA Dodgers Age: 26 Contract: 22M until 2024
Notes: With so many studs still left on the table, the Astros turn to Buehler to take main stage in their rotation. Pitching wins championships, and they'll need every bit of Buehlers regular season and post season success to continue.

2.9: 3B Rafael Devers, Boston Red Sox Age: 24 Contract: 15M until 2024
Notes: With several players on the short list picked ahead of the Astros at 2.9, we switched gears a bit and picked up one of the best young sluggers in the game who hasnt even scratched the surface on potential. His defense is coming along, but let's be honest, he's here to mash, and that's why there's a designated hitter spot if the defense falls short.

3.22: SP Jesus Luzardo, Oakland Athletics Age: 23 Contract: 10M until 2024
Notes: This pick tore me apart. With 40+ picks since my last one, names were flying off the board that would have fit my agenda, and I couldn't even stop it. We're thrilled to have Luzardo on our roster in the 3rd round. We're not as thrilled with his sophomore struggles. Hopefully it's just an adjustment to be made. It is still early in the season. The stuff is electric, when it's on. We'll see how he pans out.

4.9: SP Stephen Strasburg, Nationals Organization Age: 32 Contract: 7.5M until 2023
Notes: 129 ERA+ was available at pick #99 of the draft, probably due to fears of trips to the disabled list. Whatever. It just matters if he's deemed playoff eligible 😂.

5.22: SP Marcus Stroman, Mets Organization Age: 30 Contract: 5.0M until 2023
Notes: I debated hitters at this pick because we only have Devers, but ultimately chose Stroman. Pitching wins. He's been pitching like a top end rotation starter this year for the Mets. His 109 ERA+ and 4.21 FIP projection leave something to be desired, but as a #4 starter, we're not concerned. Picking in the middle of the draft sucks.

6.9: 1B Anthony Rizzo, Cubs Organization Age: 31 Contract: 3.0M until 2023
Notes: We needed another hitter to compliment Devers, and our first batter since the first round, and Rizzo fits the bill. A little older than we've been targeting, but still a very capable hitter that will slot in nicely to the 4 hole in the lineup. At 3 million dollars a year, it's a no brainer. Now just to wait another 40+ picks, and allow boredom to set in. Side note: updated excel sheet I've been tracking with will be updated today. I'm trying to install 300' of fence the last few days. Ill hire a contractor next time.

7.22: C Daulton Varsho Age: 24 Contract: ML Contract
Notes: 2 things that will happen with Varsho: he'll hit his way into the Arizona lineup eventually, and then we won't look ridiculous for taking him in round 7. I've been a Varsho fan since drafting him in the first year draft back in the LWNN days. We'll see how he pans out. Worst case he has position eligibility at several spots, and turns out to be Blake Swihart in disguise. I'm not hoping for the latter.

7.22: IF/OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Blue Jays Organization Age: 27 Contract: [2, A2, A3]
Notes: 27 year old with some pop, a career 113 OPS+, including the struggles this year, and provides position versatility in the field for at least this year. We needed a RH bat in the lineup after going lefty heavy, and he's got age on his side. We like him.
