I think the 2nd idea of having so many designated slots is intriguing.

I disagree with this idea. Franco and other prospects have a market value and deciding when to select him is part of the process. Again, lets not create artificial value and have rules that let you select Franco for a zero salary.

This whole league is artificial

Can we put together 2-3 different draft options to vote on so we can reach a consensus and move forward?

Minor league wildcard slot proposal, earlier drafting of them proposal like 20th round or whatever, and I am not sure the other.
I think holding a separate draft does not make sense because then you are not making people choose where to build.

I like the salary slot idea. I also think we need to be able to draft prospects and not start their clock when this is essentially a dynasty draft. My first thought was any player drafted who has no MLB experience before 2021 would be an ML contract no matter where you take him, but your MLB draft slots still need to be filled at the slot price. So if you take a prospect in Round 1 (let’s say Wander Franco) in Round 1, he goes on an ML contract, but your next MLB eligible pick gets the Round 1 slot value. And so on... if you select a rookie we define as eligible for ML contract, fine, but your slot value picks still line up with your MLB eligibles. So maybe you get your prospects you want, but you are likely overpaying on guys down the line.
The alternative would be keep the salary structure and let guys go where they may and roll the dice that their Zips are worth it at the salary they take them at. I like this idea too in a way, seeing someone burn a high expensive pick on someone who ends up a bust and never Zips well would be entertaining. Although I wonder if that would just end up leading to more league turnover, which kind of defeats what you are trying to do here

If you are taking prospects that high you are likely punting the year anyway. So taking Taffy Goeswich in round 21 and saying he costs 25 million for 1 year is not exactly a penalty.

I think we're a little all over the place, which sort of naturally happens when we're brainstorming ideas and contributing what each of us might like to see. I'll read through this whole thread again and try to develop 3 options that cover the most ground. If we have a vote that runs through the weekend, then it seems like we could reasonably start the draft on the forum some time next week.
