Does starting our 2024 Amateur Draft on Saturday, February 3rd, work for everyone?
5 Picks Every Day 1. skipped by 9 AM CST 2. skipped by 12 PM CST 3. skipped by 3 PM CST 4. skipped by 6 PM CST 5. skipped by 9 PM CST
If we have the typical time slots with 5 teams per day, then starting on February 3rd would mean we finish on March 3rd. We can launch a soft start already right now with teams being able to post now since we have the forums open. Remember, a player has to have officially signed with their MLB team before the end of 2022 year. The international players with professional experience (Yamamoto, Imanaga, etc.) are being added to Free Agency because their projections this year provide immediate impact--since they're not amateurs. Players who have signed in the calendar year of 2024 would be eligible for next year's Amateur Draft. Thoughts?

Could we wait another week to let more previews come out?

Could we wait another week to let more previews come out? What previews? Like team prospect previews? I don't know if that's a reason to delay. The timing of our Amateur Draft gives us more than half of a year so we should have a pretty good idea of who is who at this point. Dan said he basically has the ZiPS nearly already ready to file to Diamond Mind so an early April release for the projection disk is realistic this year.

At least FanGraphs was a thought, but if Zips is going to be ready to go I think we’ll get more overall participation starting earlier so let’s go for it.

Since Saturday is already coming up so soon (even though we've been talking about it), I'll send out a notice and we'll officially start the clock on Monday, February 5th. It's a soft launch because the teams at the top can already start posting who they'll select. For vacant franchises, we can automatically select the highest available signed MLB draftee--regardless of whether someone is caretaking. That's what I did last year. Does that make sense?

Thoughts on how the draft has gone so far? Any surprises or has the order been relatively as expected? This draft is pretty top-heavy, but still a lot of good talent available. Schanuel provides much needed help for Toronto as an immediate middle of the order bat with a ZiPS projected 118 OPS+

Such a deep draft this year. Guys still in MLB.com's top 100 going in the 20's and not because anyone made a bad pick. Everyone has to be happy with their picks at this point.

I am the only one who gets relieved when Mets officially posts the pick I made because then I know it's valid?

Summer mlb draft of the previous year and international signings that offseason. The only discrepancy is international guys like Yamamoto who got a killer projection who we’ll bid on in free agency.
It’s not crazy hard, but it’s a lot of players to sort through

I’m more concerned with picking someone already picked. Between my team and friends it’s at least once a year. But I finally figured out the search function in the 5th round so should be good.

Makeup selections need to be posted immediately. I'm not inclined to keep this open past this Friday.
