Even though the lockout messed up the MLB schedule a little bit, the start of this season feels weird. I was also incredibly busy this week so I haven't even seen a single pitch yet. More and more these days, I find myself following baseball more than actually being able to watch it. I just thought I'd start a MLB season discussion to see what has stuck out to others.
I havent watched a game in over 15 years...big softball fan as my daughter played college softball 2014-2018. Like the aspect of baseball, moves to slow for me tho. I like the computer game, dont watch any on tv. I would go to a game, but not a big thing for me if I dont. Weird.
I am pleasantly surprised with placing the runner on second in extra innings. It certainly increases the strategy in extra innings, offsetting the regrettable decision to use the universal DH ....
Regarding the Cardinals comment on the slow pace of the game, I record them and bump forward 30 seconds between hitters and 2 minutes between innings. Shortens the games considerably. I also subscribe to Extra Innings; so I can watch almost any game I want, even choosing which broadcast crew to watch.
I saw Robinson Cano lead off an inning with a bunt down the 3rd base line. Your humble servant is not a fan of Cano, but he redeemed himself a little in our mind when he did that. Teams would quit shifting if others followed suit.

Think the amount of young talent right now is just amazing. An exciting time to be a baseball fan and I think we all will watch MLB fail at marketing the talent.
Should of let Kershaw keep going for history purposes.
Vlad Jr is just an animal. He hit some bombs tonight and it wasn't off chumps either.
Wrong on Kershaw ... got along way to go and an effective healthy Kershaw makes the Dodgers that much better ... helluva' effort to be truly appreciated but correct desion was made to pull him
100 percent correct on Vlad ...

I hate the "ghost runner" rule ...

Kershaw isn't the difference in the Dodgers winning the west or not. He is probably going to have a month plus long DL stint that is planned anyway. And considering the talent the Dodgers have they can ride it out.

The B1G Mets are thankful that Kershaw was pulled. In real life, I hope the choice was left up to him, but I assume his post-game comments were him just being a good company man. I once punched a wooden dugout post when I got pulled because of a pitch count in my first start of the season. I don't think anyone wants to come out when they're doing well. Although Kershaw will likely to require a DL stint at some point regardless of pre-emptive measures, I understand why the organization would want to try to be cautious. After also hearing David Samson talk about Scott Boras being pissed because of Jose Fernandez's pitch count (in his last start before he died), I wouldn't be surprised if agents and the player's financial future are also a factor. But who doesn't want to see a perfect game? There's a reason I watched that awful Kevin Costner movie.
