With the 30th pick in the 2nd round, the Houston Astros select Ethan Salas, C
Correct, this is invalid because Salas in ineligible. We clarified prior to the draft that players need to have signed before the end of 2022 because of the change in the international signing date. Salas was signed in the calendar year of 2023.
We did 5 picks per day last year (included below), and I think that's a good pace.
5 Picks Every Day
1. skipped by 9 AM CST
2. skipped by 12 PM CST
3. skipped by 3 PM CST
4. skipped by 6 PM CST
5. skipped by 9 PM CST
I'm going to push the start back a few more days to Monday, March 6th. If the teams who are up first already want to start, we can have a soft open like we did previously with those teams posting their picks. I believe we're going to have a fair amount of vacant teams, and I think the best thing for the overall health of the league is going to be to automatically give them the highest MLB drafted player who signed--rather than skipping them and doing that at the end of the round. Since the international signing process has changed, we also need to clarify who is eligible. I believe what we did last year was that the player had to have officially signed with their MLB team before the end of 2022. Players who signed in the calendar year of 2023 would be eligible for next year's Amateur Draft. Thoughts?
